We are exceptionally lucky across Dumfriesshire to have so many active community volunteers and organisations. Those individuals who work to support others make such a difference and are helping keep our sense of community spirit alive. It is easy to think that Governments and politicians can solve all the challenges we face by passing new laws or making new policies however I am a great believer that people are often best placed to help themselves and to understand what matters most in their own lives and find individual and locally focused solutions. I am therefore always keen to support community initiatives and ensure the third sector is well funded. 

I spend as much time as possible out and about visiting the many excellent projects and charities we have in Dumfriesshire.
