On the 18th of September 2014 the people of Scotland voted to remain part of the United Kingdom. The outcome was decisive and here in Dumfries and Galloway we saw one of the highest No votes in Scotland. We were told at the time by both Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon that this was a once in a generation, if not once in a lifetime decision. We were told they would respect the result.
Sadly those warm words have been forgotten and a number of nationalists continue to agitate for a second referendum. I don't want to see that happen and I don't believe the further constitutional uncertainty would be good for our communities here on the border.
I believe local people want to see the Scottish Government and SNP use the powers they have to secure a better future for Dumfriesshire rather than take a step backwards to another referendums.
As your MSP, I will hold the SNP to account and do everything in my power to defend our cross border interests here in this part of the world.
