Cubs learn about life as constituency MSP

For constituency MSP Oliver Mundell is a scout leader in his home town of Moffat, only very rarely missing a Monday night session.

On this occasion, he joined the 1st Dumfriesshire Cub Pack, which was formed more than 100 years ago at Annan and is still going strong.

There are 25 cubs in the charge of three hard-working leaders and two parent helpers.

Aged between eight and ten, most go on to join the scouts which share the Galabank building, located next to the Annan Athletic football ground.

During a Tuesday evening meeting, Oliver took part in a variety of activities before giving a talk on his work and the democratic process.

He then fielded incisive questions during a lively Q and A session.

Oliver said: "It was good to see the Annan cub pack thriving in no small measure due to the enthusiasm and efforts of the leaders and other volunteers.

"The cubs showed a genuine interest in how the parliamentary process works and were already well clued up coming up with some excellent questions."
