That was the message from Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell and constituency MSP Oliver Mundell when they visited furniture and carpets specialists Latimers of Langholm on Friday. They have been touring the constituency promoting the importance of our High Streets as Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed. David Mundell said: "Latimers is an institution not just in Eskdale but across southern Scotland, northern England and beyond. "They are a family business, whose knowledge, experience and reliability are widely appreciated and are a good example to illustrate the strength of our High Streets."
Oliver Mundell said: "The business, which includes a large warehouse in the town, has been operated successfully by the same family since 1882. "Indeed, I understand that the Covid-19 lockdown, was the longest period the shop has been closed in all that time." Both emphasised the importance of the 'Shop Local' campaign aimed at achieving a viable future for High Street retailers and the knowledgeable and personal service they provide.
The two parliamentarians were hosted by David Latimer and his daughter Katherine, who explained the special measures, such as social distancing, in place to safeguard customers and staff.
