MSP Oliver quizzed on life as a politician

DUMFRIESSHIRE constituency MSP Oliver Mundell was in the 'Question Time' hotseat when he visited St Mungo Primary School, Kettleholm to talk about the life of a politician.

He was also quizzed by pupils about the Holyrood parliament building and debates, fitting in all his commitments in the constituency, attending so many meetings and events and the mechanics of the democratic process.

Mr Mundell described a great feeling of pride and responsibility after being elected to represent the entire population of the constituency where he lives and was born and brought up.

One of the great privileges was getting to know so many people across what was a geographically large area and he had made a point, when the opportunity arose, of experiencing first hand aspects of people's lives and jobs.

He particularly valued keeping in regular touch with constituents for feedback and finding out the current issues which most concerned them.

The MSP praised the pupils' incisive questioning adding: "They were very well informed and covered numerous topics. They are a great credit to their school."

A group from St Mungo School plan to meet Mr Mundell in the near future during a tour of the Scottish Parliament building in Holyrood.
